In Brazil, last week the manager of the Industrial Committee of the Rural Producers Cooperative (Cooperfarms) filed with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), in Rio de Janeiro/RJ, a project proposal to build a corn and sorghum ethanol plant in western Bahia, initiated by the cooperative. The expectation is that the construction of the plant will not only boost the local economy, but also serve as a model of sustainability and energy efficiency for other regions of the country, by promote the production of biofuels and other high-value-added by-products, such as DDGS (Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles), a protein-rich bran used in animal feed.
