#7 A Greener Ganesh: Radio station promotes natural idols for Vinayaka Chaturthi festival

In India, a Hyderabad radio station is promoting its Ramky Big Green Ganesha initiative aimed at promoting the use of Ganesh idols made of natural materials and seeds at the upcoming Vinayaka Chaturthi festival.

Launched by BIG FM in 2008, the program is distributing clay Ganesh idols packed in biodegradable coconut pit. Each will contain an unspecified seed.

Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrates the arrival of Ganesh to earth from Kailash Parvat with his mother Goddess Parvati. Indian celebrities, including Tanikella Bharani, Gopichand, Priyamani, Kartikeya, Sudheer Babu, Eesha Rebba, and Bhanuchander have endorsed the Ramky Big Green Ganesha.

“This initiative that we have taken is to promote a cordial and constructive relationship with our environment,” says Goutham Reddy, managing director and CEO of entertainment company REEL. “Through this we would like to spread the importance of environmental protection to promote sustainable development. Let this festival be a joyous moment to be a green festival for all of us.”
