#7 Hyundai and Cummins to develop and commercialize fuel-cell and electric powertrains
Cummins have entered a moratorium of understanding to jointly develop and commercialize electric and fuel-cell powertrains, with initial development to be focused in the North American commercial vehicle market. The Vice President and Head of Fuel Cell Group at Hyundai noted that the partnership of Hyundai’s “fuel-cell systems coupled with Cummins’ unparalleled electrified powertrain technologies…[will] leave a mark in the commercial vehicle market.”
The agreement allows Hyundai to increase its presence in the North American commercial vehicle market, and Cummins to enhance its electrified power product portfolio by adding Hyundai’s fuel-cell technologies. There are also plans to leverage hydrogen as a source of backup power generation in order to prevent data loss in emergency situations.
