
#6 Toyota confirms the intended launch of second-gen Mirai despite concerns over refueling station safety
In Tokyo, the Chairman of the Toyota Motor Corporation affirmed its plan to launch the second generation of their fuel-cell vehicle, the Toyota Mirai. Toyota believes that hydrogen vehicles will match the cost and performance of hybrid vehicles in the next 10 years, with the Toyota head of sales and marketing stating the “by the third generation, we fully expect fuel cell costs to be comparable with hybrids. We believe fuel cell vehicles have a huge potential.” Several journalists covering the topic have indicated some degree of skepticism, as there are still concerns over the safety of hydrogen refueling stations after such incidents as the refueling station explosion in Norway.
