In Finland, Rohe Solutions began production of Bio-LNG, or liquefied biomethane, at the Hamina LNG terminal on August 29, 2024. This marks the first Bio-LNG operation in the Baltic Sea region, utilizing an innovative liquefaction process from the existing gas grid infrastructure.
Rohe Solutions, in partnership with Hamina LNG Oy, is now leading the way with this new technology, becoming the third European terminal to implement grid-based liquefaction. The Bio-LNG produced will be ISCC EU certified, ensuring it meets stringent sustainability criteria. This certification is crucial as it underscores the fuel’s environmental credentials and supports the increased demand for renewable energy. Sanna Kokkonen, CEO of Rohe Solutions, emphasized that Bio-LNG addresses the current shortage of sustainable fuels in Finland and is poised for applications in maritime, road transport, and industry.
By August 30, 2024, Rohe Solutions had already delivered its first shipment of certified Bio-LNG to Estonia, signaling a major step in cross-border energy collaboration. Marti Hääl, CEO of Alexela, highlighted that this initiative not only exemplifies international cooperation but also marks a new era of certified renewable fuels throughout Northern Europe.
