In Malaysia, The New Straits Times reported that local airline Firefly has operated its first flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel.
The flight departed from Subang to Penang with an ATR72-500 aircraft using 38% SAF blended fuel.
The initiative is part of Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) sustainability plan to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050, according to the report.
The SAF was supplied by Malaysian oil company Petronas.
“We will continue to explore opportunities for advancing SAF together with our partners, to jointly accelerate the transformation of the Malaysian aviation industry into a sustainable one,” Petronas’ CEO said.
