#8 San Bernardino in California has signed the first-ever contract with Stadler to supply hydrogen powered trains

In California, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has signed the first-ever contract in the U.S. to supply a hydrogen-powered train, thereby establishing a milestone for implementing zero-emission technology in the rail sector. The agreement between San Bernardino County and Stadler, a swiss rolling stock manufacturer, has left the option for expansion to four more hydrogen powered trains in the future. The first train, the FLIRT H2, is planned for passenger service in 2024. The President of the SBCTA supported the initiative by reminding stakeholders that “The hydrogen FLIRT will help us address the commuting needs of today while preserving our environment for a better tomorrow.”
