#10 BMW i Hydrogen NEXT unveiled at a German car show in Frankfurt

In Germany, BMW showcased the BMW i Hydrogen NEXT for the first time in Frankfurt, where recent innovations in fuel-cell technology as well as the possible emission benefits were discussed. The BMW Group has intended to enter the fuel-cell sector since 2013, during which it entered a partnership with Toyota to co-develop a drive system using hydrogen technology. BMW highlighted only some of the benefits, including “refueling times of under four minutes, long-range, no compromises in terms of comfort, suitability for towing and very little dependence on climatic conditions, which means customers enjoy a long operating range in summer and winter alike.” Performance stability in varying climates is still a relevant challenge in the battery electric vehicle market. Today, BMW is ranked as the market leader in Germany for newly registered cars with all-electric or plug-in hybrid drive systems and the most successful established premium brand at both a European and Global Level (source: IHS Markit Report 8/2019).
