In Washington D.C., the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) said it has recommended that the Departments of Transportation, Energy, and Agriculture develop and incorporate performance measures into the Grand Challenge roadmap. To reduce aviation greenhouse gas emissions, the White House issued a “Grand Challenge” that aims to increase the production of sustainable jet fuel to 3 billion gallons per year by 2030. Its goal is also to produce enough fuel to meet 100% of commercial jet fuel demand by 2050. “Without performance measures, the agencies are not well positioned to evaluate the effectiveness of federal government actions to meet the Grand Challenge goals. In contrast, establishing and using such measures can identify progress on the extent to which SAF is contributing to emission reductions,” GAO said.
