In Ukraine, Ukrinform reports that Ukraine has a real opportunity to completely abandon gas imports through developing its own production, including of biogas, according to a statement made by Serhiy Makogon, CEO of Gas Transmission System Operator Ukraine of Ukraine LLC (Gas TSO of Ukraine).
“Ukraine has a very large potential for biogas production – up to 8 billion cubic meters of biogas per year. This is a very ambitious goal for the next 10 years. But 0.5 billion cubic meters of biogas in two years is quite real,” he said.
“Ukraine has a real opportunity to completely abandon gas imports through the development of its own gas production and biogas production,” he wrote.
As an example, Makogon cited Denmark, where 27% of the gas in the networks is biomethane (biogas brought to methane quality) and in the last five to six months there has been steady growth. Denmark expects to have a 100% ‘green’ gas system in 2030-2035.
