Gevo paves new path with Red Trail acquisition

September 12, 2024 |

In Colorado, Gevo, a leader in net-zero fuels, is set to acquire Red Trail Energy’s ethanol and carbon capture facilities in North Dakota for $210 million. The deal boosts Gevo’s push for sustainable aviation fuel and low-carbon products, adding a key carbon sequestration site with a million-ton capacity.

The acquisition of the 65-million-gallon ethanol plant is a strategic move to supercharge Gevo’s SAF production, offering synergies with its Net-Zero 1 project in South Dakota. Gevo plans to integrate its cutting-edge tech to increase efficiency, cut carbon intensity, and create a path to profitability by 2025.

Gevo will retain Red Trail’s workforce and continue operations, focusing on reducing emissions and delivering value to shareholders. CEO Patrick Gruber called it a “game-changer” for Gevo’s mission to decarbonize fuel and drive rural economic growth.
