Global Biopolymers and SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment announce UAE’s first PLA plant

In Dubai, Global Biopolymers Industries and SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment have announced their joint venture, Emirates Biotech, will construct the first polylactic acid plant in the United Arab Emirates. The plant will produce PLA-based biopolymers for distribution in the Middle East, Africa, and India.

The CEO of Emirates Biotech will be Marc Verbruggen, who brings over 10 years of experience in the PLA bioplastics industry. The plant is expected to begin operations in early 2025, with construction commencing before the start of 2026. “The transition to bioplastics is not just a choice. If one wants to reduce the plastic impact on landfills and oceans, it’s a necessity,” Verbruggen said.
