In San Francisco, startup GOZEN has raised $3.3 million in seed funding to accelerate research, development, and scaling efforts for its LUNAFORM plant-based leather.
LUNAFORM is produced via fermentation and is free from both plastic and animal components. Unlike composite plant-based leathers that are assembled in layers, LUNAFORM is a singular, fully formed material with “remarkable tensile strength and natural flexibility,” according to a press statement. LUNAFORM was recently unveiled during Paris Fashion Week, where Balenciaga used the material in a Maxi Bathrobe Coat.
GOZEN aims to open a LUNAFORM production plant in Turkey with capacity to produce over 1 million square feet annually. Happiness Capital led the round. Accelr8, Astor Management, and SOSV also participated.
