#8 Biocatalyst makes synthetic fibers biodegradable

In Quebec, Dulvaltex has introduced a biodegradable polyester to help improve the fashion industry’s environmental footprint.

The company’s Clean Impact Textiles biodegradability can be attributed to a biocatalyst that is added to the fibers during the yarn extrusion process. The biocatalyst causes anaerobic digestion at a rate similar to natural fibers.

Approximately 44 million lbs of synthetic, non-biodegradable textiles are landfilled daily in the United States—up 200% in the last 20 years.
