Himalaya Shipping Takes Delivery of Final LNG Dual-Fuel Newcastlemax

June 19, 2024 |

In Bermuda, Offshore Energy reports dry bulk shipping company Himalaya Shipping has received its twelfth and final 210,000 dwt Newcastlemax dual-fuel LNG vessel “Mount Emai.” The ship was built at New Times Shipyard (NTS) and will soon commence a 23 to 27-month time charter with a major Japanese shipping company.

Mount Emai will earn an index-linked rate, reflecting a premium over standard Capesize vessels. The charter agreement includes profit sharing from operating the vessel’s scrubber or running on LNG and allows conversion to a fixed rate based on the forward freight agreement (FFA) curve.

The vessel, flying the flag of Liberia, is 300 meters long and 50 meters wide, featuring an ECO design and LNG propulsion. These specifications align with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) goals for sustainability and emissions reduction towards 2030 and beyond.

“This marks a significant milestone for Himalaya Shipping. We are meeting what we believe will be a very interesting cycle ahead of us with a state-of-the-art fleet representing the youngest and most fuel-efficient dry bulk fleet on the water today,” CEO Herman Billung said.
