#10 PETA calls on Queen to ditch fur for good

In the United Kingdom, PETA has requested the queen swap out the fur in her ceremonial robes for faux fur. The call to royal action follows an announcement that the queen would not acquire new fur items.

PETA founder and Managing Director Ingrid Newkirk, in an open letter to Her Majesty, explained the request. “We can’t bring back the animals who perished for the fur on these robes, but this wonderful gesture would demonstrate that modern Britain is at the forefront of innovation while, at the same time, continuing to respect tradition.” Newkirk went as far as to recommend leading luxury faux furrier ECOPEL to provide the replacement.

PETA says over 100 million animals are killed annually for fur.
