In the Philippines, the Manila Bulletin reported that the Iloilo City Government is currently reviewing the waste-to-energy proposal of a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC). Metro Pacific Water (MPW) had expressed interest last August to build an advanced waste recovery facility in Iloilo, according to the report. Known as the Iloilo Solid Waste Management Facility (ISWMF), the project will utilize garbage and use it to produce renewable energy. MPW noted that project can significantly reduce waste that ends up in landfills as it can process at least 450 tons of waste per day and generate 120 metric tons of refuse-derived fuel per day. The report noted that the selection committee for the city government’s public-private partnership (PPP) projects is currently reviewing the waste-to-energy project.
