India and Brazil ignite global biofuel ambitions

In India, Financial Express reports on the occasion of World Biofuel Day, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers convened the third iteration of its international conference, sparking discussions that could redefine road transport’s energy backbone. Under the banner “The Biofuel Revolution in India: Fueling Tomorrow,” the event became a crucible for ideas on merging ecological ambitions with practicable solutions.

With Brazil’s Ambassador, Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega, leading the dialogue, the focus was on an India-Brazil partnership poised to set a global standard for sustainable fuel use, targeting a 20-25% integration of biofuels. This alliance promises hefty investments and vital technology exchanges aimed at decarbonizing mobility—a clear nod towards both nations’ commitments under the COP 26 accord.

The gathering also resonated with calls for increased domestic ethanol production, highlighted by Rohit Mathur of India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The goal is not only to boost energy security but to catalyze a broader socioeconomic uplift by involving farmers more directly in the biofuel supply chain.
