In India, the Economic Times newspaper reports the Indian government will allow 670,000 metric tons of Heavy B-molasses to be diverted to ethanol production following a ban, lifting of the ban, and then putting the ban back in place on sugarcane-based feedstocks due to expected lower cane production this season. Mills have been holding on to the molasses supplies since before the ban came into place on Dec. 7. In addition, mills were previously permitted to convert 1.7 million tons of sugar into ethanol as well.
