In India, Hindustan Times reports Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the International Conference on Green Hydrogen India 2024, reaffirmed the nation’s ambition to become a global leader in green hydrogen production, use, and export. Green hydrogen, produced via electrolysis from renewable sources, is key to decarbonizing industries like steel, transport, and refineries.
Modi highlighted the progress made under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which fosters collaboration between industry, academia, and startups. He emphasized the need for innovation and investment in cutting-edge research and infrastructure to scale up green hydrogen development. “There is also a great potential for a green jobs eco-system to develop. To enable this, we are also working on skill development for our youth in this sector,” PM Modi said.
India’s efforts align with its climate commitments, having already surpassed its Paris Agreement goals nine years ahead of the 2030 target. Modi noted that while India has significantly increased its non-fossil fuel capacity, the focus remains on expanding green energy solutions to combat the urgent impacts of climate change.
