India’s Oil Minister Puri Urges Automakers to Develop E100-Compatible Vehicles

September 3, 2024 |

In India, Money Control reports India’s Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, urged automobile manufacturers to produce vehicles compatible with E100 fuel during his address at the India Bio Energy & Tech Expo on September 2, 2024. The government, actively collaborating with the automobile industry, aims to expand the use of ethanol as part of its broader strategy to reduce reliance on crude oil imports and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Puri commended the industry for its progress in manufacturing E20-compliant vehicles and developing retrofit kits for older models. The government has already launched E100 fuel at over 400 retail outlets nationwide, marking a significant step toward its goal of achieving 20% ethanol blending in petrol by 2025. Puri also emphasized the importance of diversifying ethanol production sources and highlighted various incentives introduced by the government to boost ethanol production, which has significantly reduced the country’s oil import bill and environmental impact.

The minister’s call to action comes as part of India’s ongoing efforts to foster a more sustainable and self-reliant energy sector, aligning with global trends in renewable energy adoption.
