In Iowa, the Des Moines Register newspaper reports a new coalition is calling for a shift to food production from corn for ethanol production for the state’s farmland. The plan, Setting the Table for All Iowans, launched by the Iowa Food System Coalition aims to see the conversion of farmland to food production for local consumption, attracting young people to agriculture as well as securing financial assistance for agriculture. With as much as 70% of the state’s corn crop going to ethanol production, the coalition seeks to shift that land back to food.
