In Missouri, Brownfield AG News reported that the executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) said sustainable aviation fuel could become the largest new market in the history of agriculture. Monte Shaw, head of IRFA, said: “We created a 14-billion-gallon a year market for ethanol in transportation fuel. Now try to wrap your head around what a 100-billion-gallon market would be, which is what sustainable aviation fuel will be worldwide.” He said carbon sequestration is the key to unlocking the full potential of the sustainable aviation fuel market, but there have been some roadblocks. “There are a number of landowners, a small minority, but a number of them who say, ‘this won’t matter to us,’ and that’s my frustration. If you don’t like it, fine, that’s you’re right. But don’t tell me it won’t matter.” Shaw says he’s optimistic there will be movement on carbon capture projects in 2024, according to the report.
