It’s beginning to look a lot like BioYule in Canada
#7 Technologies at scale
In addition to the BioAmber story, we reported in September that Enerkem has raised C$152.6 million and has initiated the production of biomethanol from non-recyclable household garbage at the Enerkem Alberta Biofuels full-scale facility in Edmonton, Canada. The financing is comprised of a recently accessed C$29 million debt facility from Integrated Asset Management Corp.’s (IAM) Private Debt Group as well as C$50 million in private placements from current investors and C$73.6 million of debt from two other lenders, closed over the past year. This funding will be used for the product expansion of the Edmonton facility and the company’s global growth.
At the same time, we rated Canada’s Ensyn as the #1 “commercially-scaled, available-now” fast pyrolysis technology, noting that with its partners they have been combusting RFO (renewable fuel oil) for industrial heating purposes for many years. Over 20 million gallons have been combusted commercially in a variety of boilers and furnaces in Canada and the US. In addition, combustion demonstrations have taken place in numerous Government and private-sector facilities in Europe, Brazil, and Malaysia, as well as in North America.
In 2014 Ensyn completed an enhancement of its RFO production plant in Renfrew, Ontario, converting it from a renewable chemicals and heating fuels plant to a dedicated fuels facility producing RFO, Ensyn’s key biofuel product.
