September 16, 2024 |

In California, Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has launched a new program to test its Cummins X15N natural gas engine, with J.B. Hunt Transport as the first fleet operator to participate. The program features a 2025 Peterbilt 579 day cab tractor, equipped with the X15N engine, which runs on renewable natural gas. Fleets will test the truck for up to two weeks on their regular routes, utilizing Clean Energy’s fueling infrastructure across North America.

J.B. Hunt, a leader in commercial logistics, is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and exploring sustainable fuel alternatives. By participating in the demo program, the company aims to evaluate the engine’s performance and potential to decarbonize operations. The new Cummins X15N engine, capable of hauling heavy loads over 700 miles, is being praised for its power and torque, rivaling its diesel counterpart.

RNG, made from organic waste, is a clean fuel that can reduce carbon emissions by up to 300% compared to diesel, making it a key tool in reaching sustainability goals. Clean Energy’s demo program will continue through 2025, as other major fleets test the technology.
