Japan sushi chain to supply used cooking oil for SAF production

In Japan, local newspaper The Mainichi reported that Japanese sushi chain Akindo Sushiro will supply used cooking oil to produce sustainable aviation fuel. Food & Life Companies, based in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, aims to supply oil from around 680 Sushiro and other restaurants across Japan to produce sustainable aviation fuel from 2025, according to the report. On April 5, the company signed an agreement with Yokohama-based industrial giant JGC Holdings Corp. and other parties that will produce the SAF. Using the used oil as a base, JGC Holdings and others plan to produce 750,000 liters of SAF per year at a plant under construction in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Yuki Nishimura, JGC Holdings program manager for the SAF business unit, said: “Cooperation is essential in order to supply domestically produced SAF. In terms of resource reuse, cross-industrial efforts are of extreme significance.”
