In New York, LNG Prime reports Japan’s K Line took delivery of its newest LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier, the Nereus Highway, built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. This delivery marks a significant step for K Line, which ordered the 7,000-ceu vessel in 2021 as part of its broader initiative to reduce emissions.
The ship features WinGD’s dual-fuel engine, the 7X62DF-2.1 iCER, designed to minimize methane slip when running on LNG. By using LNG, the Nereus Highway is expected to cut CO2 emissions by 25 to 30 percent and nearly eliminate sulfur oxide emissions. The ship will also reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 75 percent compared to conventional vessels powered by heavy fuel oil.
K Line aims to operate around 40 LNG-powered vessels by 2030, reflecting its commitment to greener shipping solutions. Earlier this year, the company took delivery of its first capesize bulk carrier with a dual-fuel engine. K Line currently boasts a fleet of 46 LNG carriers, with 44 owned outright, underscoring its leadership in the sector. The Nereus Highway is the first of two ships expected from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.
