JBS Australia begins construction of renewable gas project

September 25, 2023 |

In Australia, JBS Australia has commenced construction at its Scone Processing Plant to develop a system that will capture wastewater emissions and substitute its liquified natural gas (LNG) consumption with renewable gas sourced from an anaerobic wastewater treatment process.

In partnership with leading biogas handling company Energy360, JBS is installing bioenergy infrastructure that will transform its current wastewater treatment process into a circular flow that captures and reuses biogas.

Two pond covers will be installed at JBS’s Scone Processing Plant, that minimize the release of biogas and odor into the atmosphere. The project will reduce the plant’s carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 28,000 metric tons per annum and generate Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs).

The initial stages of pond cover installation have commenced at Scone and the project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2023.
