LanzaTech secures contract with Jakson Green for NTPC carbon recycling facility

August 8, 2024 |

In Illinois, LanzaTech Global announced they have been awarded a contract by Jakson Green to provide NTPC Limited, India’s largest power utility, with its 4G ethanol technology. This new facility, located in Central India, will use LanzaTech’s second-generation bioreactor to transform CO2 emissions and green hydrogen into ethanol, supporting India’s energy transition.

The plant, conceptualized by LanzaTech and NTPC’s R&D arm NETRA, is designed for commercial-scale deployment of carbon recycling technology. It will have an annual CO2 abatement capacity of 7,300 tons, equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 8,523 acres of forest. Operations are expected to begin within two years.

Dr. Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech, highlighted the project’s role in advancing the circular carbon economy, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India initiative. Jakson Green’s expertise will drive the development of this groundbreaking project, solidifying their position as a leader in India’s clean energy transition.
