Lighthouse Green Fuels start work on SAF project on Teesside

October 18, 2023 |

In the UK, Biofuels International reported that formal engagement has begun on Lighthouse Green Fuels’ (LGF) Development Consent Order (DCO) application for an advanced sustainable aviation fuel facility on Teesside.

LGF is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and requires consent from the Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero via a DCO, the report added.

LGF will benefit Teesside by creating over 1,000 jobs during construction and employing a further 240 full-time staff when the plant is operational. The project is being developed by Lighthouse Green Fuels Ltd which is owned by global manufacturing and infrastructure group Alfanar.

The project stipulates that LGF will convert non-recyclable waste and waste biomass into advanced sustainable aviation fuel.

This SAF will then be blended with conventional jet fuel and distributed to UK airports to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation industry, according to the report.
