Naturgy to build 20GWh biomethane plant in Valencia

July 6, 2023 |

In Spain, Naturgy, in collaboration with AEMA Servicios Energéticos, will develop a new biomethane plant located in the Valencian municipality of Utiel, with the capacity to produce 20 GWh per year. The construction of the project will begin shortly after having the environmental license and the works license granted by the Utiel City Council and will entail an investment of 2.7 million euros. Its start-up date is scheduled for early 2025.

The Utiel plant will use agro-industrial waste and will have the capacity to supply more than 5,300 homes with a gas of renewable origin that can be injected into the distribution network, avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of more than 4,300 tons of CO 2 eq/year.

The project is aligned with the Valencian Biogas Route, which promotes the construction of a hundred renewable gas plants in the region to produce 65% of the gas consumed by Valencian homes.
