In Washington D.C., DG Fuels announced it has selected Phelps County, Nebraska, for its first Midwest sustainable aviation fuel production facility. The innovative plant, expected to begin operations in 2030, will produce 193 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually, with near-zero carbon emissions, meeting ASTM fuel standards.
The facility will utilize cellulosic biomass, primarily corn stover, and clean hydrogen feedstock to create sustainable fuel. This process not only minimizes environmental impact but also brings significant economic benefits to local agricultural communities. “DG Fuels’ baseline process differs from other systems by having little or no environmental emissions either to the atmosphere or waters while at the same time providing significant economic value to the agricultural communities and farmers that we partner with,” said Michael C. Darcy, CEO at DG Fuels.
Phelps County, renowned for its fertile farmland, stands to gain millions in additional income by converting agricultural by-products into SAF. The project will create 650 jobs and include a multi-million-dollar community benefits package to enhance local infrastructure and quality of life.
