In Switzerland, Nova Marine Group and Algoma Central Corporation have announced an order for the world’s largest and most eco-friendly cement carrier. The 38,000 dwt vessel will be built in China and delivered by the end of 2026.
This groundbreaking vessel, part of the NovaAlgoma joint venture, will be equipped with a dual-fuel system capable of using methanol and a state-of-the-art cold ironing system to achieve zero emissions in ports. It will also feature an innovative air lubricating system to reduce sea water resistance and a waste heat recovery system to generate 250 kW of electricity from exhaust gases.
The commitment for this unprecedented vessel was signed in Ningbo, China, by Nova Marine Group’s founder and Chairman, Giovanni Romeo, alongside COO Salvatore Pugliese, and Xinle Shipbuilding’s chairman.
“This new addition aligns with our strategy to address the rising cement demand and cements our position as a global leader in the cement carrier sector,” said Vincenzo Romeo, CEO of Nova Marine Group. “It represents a milestone in our efforts towards a green fleet.”
The vessel will be manned by 21 crew members and classified by RINA.
