PETA offers helping hand to Wienermobile, but with a catch

In Chicago, PETA has offered to replace a recently stolen catalytic converter to get Oscar Mayer’s iconic Wienermobile rolling again—but only if parent company Kraft Heinz agrees to convert to vegan hot dogs. In a pun-filled letter to Kraft Heinz executive Carlos Abrams-Rivera, the animal rights organization also offered to cover the Wienermobile’s maintenance for a year. PETA claims the time is right for a switch, given Kraft Heinz’s recent introduction of Oscar Mayer Not Hot Dogs vegan brand.

“Instead of slinging cancer-causing processed meat made from cows’ livers and pigs’ snouts, the Oscar Mayer NotDogMobile would dish up the delicious veggie dogs that today’s diners want,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA would relish the opportunity to help Oscar Mayer ketchup with the booming vegan food market.”

The Wienermobile made headlines recently after its catalytic converter was stolen in Las Vegas.
