In India, SolarQuarter reported that Dublin-based Phelan Green Energy is set to construct a green hydrogen plant in La Joya, in Peru’s Arequipa department. The plant, powered by a 1.8 GW solar facility, will have the capacity to produce 80,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The project represents a $2.3 billion investment, according to the report. Announced in May, the project will unfold in three phases, utilizing 1.8 GW of new solar power to generate 80,000 tons of green hydrogen per year. This hydrogen will then be converted into 440,000 tons of ammonia for export through the port of Matarani, using desalinated seawater for the electrolysers, the report added. Both the hydrogen and ammonia production units will be situated on 4,000 to 4,500 hectares in the La Joya desert, on land owned by the Peruvian Ministry of Defense.
