In the UK, former 007 and Sexiest Man Alive Pierce Brosnan has appeared in a public service announcement touting bioplastics as a potential solution to the waste plastics crisis.
Brosnan, 69, and son Paris—a filmmaker and environmental activist—created the PSA with Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions.
“We are facing a planetary crisis: climate change, air pollution, loss of biodiversity. Fossil fuel-based plastics contribute to all three environmental concerns,” the elder Brosnan tells PEOPLE magazine.
Paris Brosnan, 21, adds that the “future is bioplastics, which are biodegradable and frequently made from corn, sugarcane, hemp and even plant-based oils. Most plastic is denser than sea water, which is why it sinks to the bottom of the ocean where it breaks down into tiny pieces known as microplastics.”
The PSA is entitled “Plastic is Forever… so it’s time to get clever about managing it.”
