In the UK, Port Technology International reported that a joint study conducted by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Tasmanian government has conveyed the potential in importing green hydrogen from the island.
According to the Port of Rotterdam, electricity can be created from wind, solar and balancing with hydroelectric power in Tasmania.
The report noted that Tasmanian hydrogen may become part of the supply mix and help to strengthen the new green hydrogen economy in the Netherlands and northwestern Europe, as the Port of Rotterdam becomes an international distribution hub for hydrogen.
In December 2021, the Tasmanian government and the Port of Rotterdam had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the viability of shipping green hydrogen to Rotterdam.
