In Portugal, Reuters reports the country is looking to set up the first auction in Europe for injection of green hydrogen and biomethane to the grid and is awaiting approval to use state aid for the project from the European Commission. The auction could take place in the next few weeks, pending Brussels’ green light, with Galp buying the green energy to later sell as demand picks up. Such a system would remove the need for projects to secure offtake contracts but having a single market and single offtaker to supply to.
