In Sweden, PowerCell Group secured a SEK 165 million order from a leading Italian marine OEM manufacturer for 56 Marine System 225 fuel cell units, marking one of the largest marine fuel cell orders to date. These systems, scheduled for delivery between mid and late 2025, will primarily power commercial cruise ships, providing over 6.3 MW of auxiliary energy to internal electrical systems.
Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group: “We are very proud of being trusted by this important Italian customer, a company with a lot of experience in containerised marine power solutions. We deliver a fuel cell solution that is not only climate-friendly, but also provides the advantage of reduced noise from the ship. This order confirms the importance of hydrogen-electric solutions for the marine industry.”
This substantial order underscores the marine industry’s accelerating shift toward decarbonisation, with hydrogen fuel cells at the forefront of this transformation. Additionally, PowerCell will deliver a 3.2 MW system for internal testing and another for a separate vessel installation, further expanding their role in sustainable maritime power solutions.
