In Qatar, Safety4Sea reports QatarEnergy is in advanced negotiations with three leading South Korean shipbuilders—HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Hanwha Ocean— in a contract valued at approximately 9 trillion won ($6.6 billion) for up to 20 Q-Max LNG carriers.
This potential order is part of QatarEnergy’s expansive LNG fleet growth strategy. Since 2022, the company has signed time-charter party agreements for the long-term charter and operation of 104 conventional LNG vessels. In March 2024, QatarEnergy further expanded its fleet by signing TCP agreements with Nakilat for the operation of 25 conventional-size LNG vessels.
