Qemetica Soda Polska secures financing for biomass conversion

October 13, 2024 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Polish chemicals producer Qemetica Soda Polska said it has secured $25.5 million in financial support from the national ecofund to convert a coal-fired boiler to biomass combustion at its soda production plant in central Inowroclaw.

The funding provided by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will enable energy generation from biomass, which will reduce the coal consumption of Qemetica Group’s most energy-intensive yet key business area — soda production, according to the report.

The project also stipulates the construction of a biomass fuel management system, including infrastructure for unloading, storage and transport of biomass. A tender is currently underway to select a contractor for the engineering works, which are expected to be completed in 2027, the report added.
