In Spain, Heraldo-Diario De Sofia reports Redexis Renovables has begun modernization work on the biomethane production plant in Almazán, investing €5.5 million to enhance its waste treatment capacity and maximize biogas production. The project aims to generate approximately 20 GWh of biomethane annually, capable of supplying around 3,170 households.
The modernization, currently in its final phase, is set to be completed by December 2024, when biomethane production will commence, injecting into the municipal gas network. This initiative highlights Redexis’ commitment to the energy transition and sustainable local energy production, providing a renewable, zero-emission gas from agricultural waste.
In the past decade, Redexis has invested about €60 million in Castilla y León, deploying gas infrastructures and operating over 1,200 kilometers of pipelines, benefiting 190,000 citizens and creating over 110 jobs. The Almazán project aligns with the company’s broader goals of decarbonization and boosting the rural economy.
By capturing methane from agricultural waste, Redexis’ biomethane production significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and enhances waste management. The company is also exploring the development of biogas and modifying car engines to utilize higher ethanol blends, contributing to a cleaner environment.
