In Singapore, Seatrium Limited and Nanyang Technological University have launched the Seatrium New Energy Laboratory in Singapore, focusing on advancing sustainable energy solutions for the Offshore and Marine sector. The partnership, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding, aims to address critical challenges in maritime decarbonization, offshore renewables, and digitalization.
The lab will explore innovative technologies, including an ammonia release mitigation system, a metal-organic framework-based carbon capture system, and a digital twin model for marine electrification. These initiatives are designed to meet the International Maritime Organization’s emission reduction targets and enhance the efficiency of energy solutions in the maritime industry.
In addition to research, the collaboration will focus on workforce transformation through continuous learning initiatives offered by NTU, equipping Seatrium’s employees with essential skills in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and robotics.
Chris Ong, CEO of Seatrium, emphasized the lab’s role as a testbed for innovative solutions, while NTU President Professor Ho Teck Hua highlighted the importance of this partnership in tackling global environmental challenges. The Seatrium New Energy Laboratory marks a significant step forward in the industry’s transition to greener and more sustainable operations.
