#9 Russia undertakes the construction of a hydrogen-powered International Arctic Station

In Russia, The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, alongside its Russian foreign partners, have agreed to undertake the construction of a year-round fully autonomous International Arctic Station—equipped with solar and wind generation that will be supplemented by hydrogen storage technology. The station, dubbed Snowflake, is scheduled to begin operation in 2022 at a total cost of about 10-20 million euros. The objective of Snowflake is to test, improve, and promote solutions in the field of environmentally friendly technologies of the future for life support and the maintenance of remote settlements and facilities in the Arctic region.
