Simply Blue Group to build SAF hub in Nova Scotia

September 16, 2024 |

In Ireland, Simply Blue Group announced plans to develop a major sustainable aviation fuel hub in Goldboro, Nova Scotia, using renewable electricity from wind and solar farms and local biomass to produce 150,000 tonnes of SAF annually. The facility will repurpose 755 acres of land once slated for an LNG project and will rely on forestry residues like wood chips and sawdust for feedstock. Construction will begin in 2026, with operations expected by 2029, aiming to reduce aviation emissions by 90% while supporting local industries and global decarbonization goals.

Michael Galvin, COO of Hydrogen and Sustainable Fuels at Simply Blue said, “It’s great to be finally launching this project. A lot of work has gone on in the background with three years of due-diligence and engineering completed, and we have already signed a supply agreement with Wagner Forest NS Ltd. to act as an agent in sourcing 700,000 tonnes of green biomass per annum.”
