In Washington state, Snohomish County is giving up on its biodiesel dreams for now after investing in $1.4 million worth of seed crushing and drying equipment it hoped would spark a local biodiesel industry, but low oil prices kept farmers from buying in. The equipment went idle for three years but now the dryer has been offloaded as surplus while restrictions from the grant that partly paid for the machinery forbid it being passed on for the time being.
