South Dakota PUC rejects Navigator’s pipeline project application

In South Dakota, AgWeek reports the state’s Public Utilities Commission has rejected Navigator CO2 Ventures’ Heartland Greenway Pipeline project application a unanimous vote, saying the company was purposefully aiming to not comply with the law, seeking exemptions. Two counties had enacted buffer rules for underground pipelines to protect schools, homes and cities which Navigator was trying to circumvent. Five of POET’s ethanol plants located in South Dakota were signed on in 2022 to have their CO2 emissions shipped off to underground storage in Illinois via the pipeline.
