Stolt Tankers fuels barge Stolt Main with HVO100

August 22, 2024 |

In the UK, Stolt Tankers announced  its barge, the Stolt Main, was bunkered entirely with HVO100, supplied by GoodFuels. This milestone, achieved last week, represents a substantial shift from the barge’s previous fuel blend, HVO20, which had already cut its carbon emissions by 18%.

HVO100, a synthetic diesel made from processed vegetable oils or animal fats, offers a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfur emissions compared to conventional diesel. By transitioning to HVO100, the Stolt Main is set to slash its CO2 emissions by about 90%. This transition underscores Stolt Tankers’ commitment to pioneering the use of biofuels within the shipping sector as part of a broader strategy to align with global carbon reduction targets.

Maren Schroeder, President of Stolt Tankers, emphasized the company’s dedication to exceeding regulatory standards and industry expectations, particularly in light of the European Union’s ambitious goal to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by 2030. This latest initiative by Stolt Tankers not only advances their own sustainability objectives but also contributes significantly to the maritime industry’s green transition.
