In Iowa, Summit Next Gen, said it has acquired a 60-acre site on the Houston Ship Channel for its ethanol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel project. Positioned near key logistics infrastructure, the site ensures cost-effective sourcing and distribution of SAF to global markets. With an additional 40-acre expansion option, the company is gearing up to meet rising SAF demand.
Funded by a successful capital raise, Summit Next Gen is entering its final engineering phase, targeting a 2025 investment decision and 2027 operational launch. The project will be executed in partnership with Burns & McDonnell and Honeywell UOP.
Newly appointed CEO Robert Halpin, formerly of Crestwood Equity Partners, brings leadership expertise to the venture. Executive Chairman Bruce Rastetter hailed the initiative as a critical step toward decarbonising aviation while creating new opportunities for ethanol producers globally.
