In Zimbabwe, UK-based Sunbird Bioenergy says it wants to invest $150 million in a 120 million liter per year cassava-based ethanol facility. The government would own 10% of the facility set to come online next year and would increase shareholding over time to 51%. The facility’s capex is around $60 million while the remaining investment would be in setting up the 40,000ha agricultural system required to supply the facility, including as many as 20,000 smallholder farmers.
